Weaver Ant - Lives on Leaves

Did you know that in India there are nearly 828 species and subspecies of ants, and worldwide there are over 12,000 ant species? Now that’s surprising! Ants are an integral part of our lives. We share our spaces with them and vice versa. Leave leftovers in the kitchen, and you’ll soon find a long queue of red or black ants. Even in the jungle, you’re likely to come across one of the 828 species: carrying a dead insect, following a familiar route, sniffing leaves, building homes, and what not. One of the species I stumbled upon right in front of my native house was the Weaver Ant. I followed their path and discovered that they had built a colony out of leaves, where thousands of ants thrive. Even though the colonies were already complete, the ants were still relentlessly at work; coordinating with one another, gathering food, protecting their territory, and carrying on with their roles.
